Past Awards

The Flora Krause Casey Public Health Award has been awarded to individuals or organizations since 1992. Awardees have been selected for their efforts on a range of public health topics.

Most recently, the Flora Krause Casey Public Health Award was given to the Alexandria Health Department Medical Reserve Corps in 2020 for its COVID-19 efforts.

About the Awards

Flora Krause Casey (1904-1991) was a longtime resident of Alexandria and a dedicated advocate for the health of people who are underserved.  In the late 1930s, Casey oversaw a local clinic that provided pre-camp physical exams. Over time, she led the clinic’s efforts to provide more comprehensive services based on community needs. The Flora Krause Casey Public Health Award honors Casey’s legacy by recognizing other individuals with similar purpose, devotion, community advocacy, and leadership.
