Information Services
The Information Services Section is located at Alexandria Police Headquarters and accessed in the lobby. It is open to the public from 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Information Services is closed to the public on Wednesdays, weekends and holidays.

Warrants
For warrant information on yourself, you must appear, with ID, in person at Police Headquarters. Please do not call as warrant information will not be discussed over the telephone. You may appear at any time to see if there is a warrant for you at Police Headquarters.
Criminal History Records Information Request
$10 Fee - check or money order made payable to the City of Alexandria
Criminal History background checks must requested by mail. To obtain your criminal history background check, you must pay the $10 fee and provide two valid, unexpired government-issued forms of identification. One of these must be a picture ID and it must be notarized. Criminal History Checks will only be conducted for citizens who reside or work in the City of Alexandria. The below-listed documents may be utilized as a form of identification:
- Valid/Current Driver’s license
- Valid/Current Passport/visa
- Valid/Current State-issued ID card
- Valid/Current Military ID
- Social Security Card

Contractors and Outside Agencies requesting background checks:

- A letter requesting a background check needs to be accompanied by a signed release form.
- These checks will only be conducted for individuals with valid City of Alexandria addresses.
- The request will also need to contain a self-addressed envelope.
Outside Law Enforcement Agency requesting background check(s):
You can send your requests by fax to 703.746.1936.
- The fax request must be on official agency letterhead and contain a signed release form. The agency letterhead must contain the requestor's rank or position as a Law Enforcement Official.
- The $10 fee does not apply to law enforcement entities.
- The completed background check will be mailed to you.
Note: This background check only includes arrests made in the City of Alexandria by APD.
If you require a state-wide background check, you will need to contact Virginia State Police at 804.674.2024 for further instructions.
Police Incident Report Verification
$10 Fee - check or money order made payable to the City of Alexandria
Police reports are not released. You can request a Police Incident Report Verification by mail (Attn: Records Section 3600 Wheeler Ave Alexandria, VA 22304), if the report lists you as the victim, complaint/reported party. The verification includes information from the original report, including:
- The victim’s name
- The incident’s address
- The offense
- The report number
- A brief summary of the incident
- Any stolen/damaged items
- Any injuries received
- The request will also need to contain a self-addressed envelope.
When making your request, you must pay the $10 fee and provide a copy of your valid photo ID and all the necessary information concerning the incident. The picture identification must be notarized.
Lost/Stolen Passports
If your passport is from a foreign country and has been lost/stolen/missing, you may report the matter to your embassy or to the INS; do not report the matter to the Alexandria Police Department.
Crash Reports
$5 Fee - check or money order made payable to the City of Alexandria
You can request a CRASH Report by mail (Attn: Records Section 3600 Wheeler Ave Alexandria, VA 22304).
You can request an accident report if:
- You were directly involved in the crash and your name is listed on the report
- You are the owner of the property that was involved in the crash
- You are listed as an injured passenger/pedestrian
- You are the insurance company or attorney representing the person(s) involved
- When making your request, you must pay the $5 fee and provide a copy of your valid photo ID and all the necessary information concerning the incident. The picture identification must be notarized.
- The request will also need to contain a self-addressed envelope.
