There are many opportunities to get involved to help better the City of Alexandria. Opportunities include serving on a Board, Commission or Committee, providing input on a new City project or speaking at a City Council meeting.

Boards & Commissions

The City of Alexandria has a strong commitment to citizen participation as evidenced by the number of citizen boards and commissions established by City Council. These bodies compose a formal system through which citizens can advise City Council on all major issues affecting the City.

City Academy

The Alexandria City Academy is a nine-week course that provides residents with the opportunity to learn about City government through first-hand experience with a wide range of government functions, services, activities and issues.

Civic Engagement

What's Next Alexandria, the City's civic engagement initiative, guides Alexandria's public decision-making processes.  Find information and involvement opportunities on active citywide projects and initiatives. 

Community Emergency Response Team

The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program trains community members to be better prepared to respond to emergency situations in Alexandria.

Speak at a Meeting

City Council welcomes public input on matters of concern to the community. All those wishing to speak at a meeting, must register in advance.
