Faith Initiative
Faith Initiative
On September 23, 2022, the clergy of Alexandria's historic Black and white churches came together to lead the city as we collected soil into jars representing the lives of Joseph McCoy and Benjamin Thomas who were lynched in 1897 and 1899 respectively. Since that time, they have been joined by many more clergy with churches in Alexandria for social coffees, an occasional program or workshop. The goal is to build bridges across Alexandria's faith community and support one another. There are no requirements for membership and all of Alexandria's clergy are invited to join ACRP's loose federation.
There are two faith leaders that serve as organizers or leaders of the group, one sits on ACRP's steering committee, and the other is from an Alexandria church. The Faith Initiative remains independent of ACRP, but committed to the goals of community building and reconciliation.
