The Division of Aging and Adult Services (DAAS) serves seniors and adults with disabilities in the city of Alexandria and helps them lead healthy and independent lives. This video provides a general overview of the division and its work, services offered and the people served.
This is Recovery
“This is Recovery” is a 14 minute video featuring men and women across Northern Virginia who share their stories of recovery to help others who are dealing with similar challenges. They enable and inspire all of us to live in hope. This video was funded by the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Development Services and produced by members of the Virginia Recovery Initiative Region 2. Adult Day Service Center
The Adult Day Services Center (ADSC) is a cost effective non-profit program designed to offer services to seniors 55 years and older who may need assistance and who may not want or cannot stay at home alone during the day. This video highlights ADSC's weekly program that includes:
- Physical activity
- Social and mental activities
- Nutritious meal (Breakfast, Lunch and Snacks)
- Caregiver support
- Medication administration
Individuals with Disabilities (ID) Residential Program
Mental Health and Substance Abuse Residential Services provides permanent or transitional living arrangements, support, supervision and training for persons with severe mental illness and/or co-occurring substance use disorders in a home-like environment that promotes personal growth, respect, recovery and hope. Take a look at the ID Residential Program services and a few of the group homes in Alexandria.

The Fund for Alexandria’s Child Works to enhance the quality of life for children in foster care and those at risk of abuse and neglect by providing funds for them to participate in the activities of childhood such as sports, dance, art, summer camp, field trips and prom.
