Public Service Recognition Week 2022
What is Public Service Recognition Week?
The first week in May is Public Service Recognition Week, which honors the people who serve our communities as federal, state and local government employees. Now more than ever public service is vital to our nation.
But what is public service? What does it mean to each of us? See what some of our employees at DCHS say in response.
Throughout the week, if you follow the City’s social media channels, you can find out what public service means to several of our colleagues other City departments.
Thank you to our 675 DCHS employees who are dedicated to building a community in which residents enjoy a sense of well-being, safety and self-sufficiency. We recognize the commitments you make to meet the challenges facing our community every day.
Public service for me is shared humanity. I see myself in our residents and (hopefully) they see themselves in me...regardless of the role I fill or the services they seek.
Michelle Mosley
Michelle says this quote by Winston Churchill resonates, "We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give."
Tricia Bassing
Tricia says, "Public service for me is listening to residents and co-workers and working collaboratively to build systems that create the conditions for welcoming, equitable and outcomes-driven services that ultimately result in a more resilient Alexandria."
LaTanya Chinagorom
LaTanya says, "For me, customer service means honoring others with a sincere heart."
Jennifer Reed
Jennifer says, "To me, public service is gathering available resources, like-minded people from all walks of life, with various talents, together toward a common goal…see a need and take the lead!"
Stephanie Buchanan
Stephanie says, "Public service to me means addressing the needs of people in our community. As a social worker, we promote the wellbeing of at-risk populations--individuals who are experiencing a mental health crisis, those who are oppressed, and others in need of supports. Public service means assessing needs, being resourceful, collaborating and promoting positive outcomes through empowerment."
