TANF Assistance and Emergency Assistance

The Virginia TANF program provides eligible families with a monthly cash payment to meet their basic needs. To be eligible, the family must have a child who is:

The TANF program emphasizes personal responsibility. Participants may be provided with services such as job skills training, work experience, job readiness training, child care assistance, transportation and other work related expenses.

TANF Emergency and Diversionary Assistance

TANF Emergency Assistance provides one-time financial assistance needed as a result of a disaster or fire. TANF Diversionary Assistance provides short-term one-time only assistance to resolve an emergency due to temporary loss of or delay in receiving income.  The application for all forms of TANF is the same.
