On behalf of the men and women of the Alexandria Police Department, we are proud to serve our residents, visitors and businesses throughout the City every day.

I’d like to provide an update on modifications in our operations.

We are making service adjustments to prioritize our workload to better serve the Alexandria Community. Our goals include ensuring a sustainable work-life balance for officers while focusing our investigative and response efforts on more serious criminal incidents and concerns across the community. To achieve this, we are making modifications to allow for a more significant deployment of officers and resources to prevent crime and disorder throughout the city.

We’ve identified areas for improvement that we will be addressing moving forward. These include:

  • Identifying non-emergency calls which may be served by a partner agency with the City.
  • Identifying non-emergency calls that do not require an in person response.
  • Providing increased online support and phone reporting, in partnership with our Department of Emergency Communications (DECC).

While we make adjustments, please know we are committed to:

  • Engaging and building partnerships with all communities in Alexandria.
  • Continuing to actively serve neighborhoods in the city of Alexandria to prevent and reduce crime.

Maintaining operational readiness and preparedness to respond to all public safety incident.

We will continue to monitor the modifications and evaluate our responses to these calls to ensure we are best serving the Alexandria Community. Our top priority is your safety and the safety of every member of our community.
