Alexandria, VA — Historic Alexandria is proud to announce a robust slate of programs, exhibitions, and community events commemorating America’s 250th anniversary in 2026. As a city deeply connected to the nation’s founding, from the Fairfax Resolves to being the adopted hometown of George Washington, Alexandria is marking this milestone by inviting residents and visitors alike to explore the people, places, and stories that shaped the American experience.
America250 Kick-Off Event — January 26, 2026
Historic Alexandria will officially launch its America250 commemoration with a public kick-off event on Monday, January 26, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. at the Alexandria History Museum at The Lyceum.
The evening will feature guest speakers who will reflect on the significance of the Semiquincentennial and Virginia’s unique role in shaping and continuing to tell a fuller, more inclusive American story. Attendees will also get a first look at the exhibitions, programs, and special events planned throughout Alexandria’s America250 celebration.

- Historic Happy Hours: Monthly in 2026
- Virginia 250 Passport at Gadsby’s Tavern Museum, the Alexandria History Museum at The Lyceum, and the Alexandria Black History Museum
In addition, Historic Alexandria will present specialty tours, public programs, lectures, musical performances, and exhibitions reflecting Alexandria’s role in the American Revolution and its continuing contributions to the national story.
