Looking for a hands-on way to experience Alexandria's history this summer? Join Historic Alexandria for its popular Grown-Up Field Trip series, where adults can explore local history through engaging conversations, primary sources, and interactive activities. Two programs are offered this summer, including one taking place this Sunday, July 19.

Grown-Up Field Trip: Archaeology Museum
Sunday, July 19, 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Alexandria Archaeology Museum, 105 N. Union Street, Unit 327
$15 per person; $12 for Historic Alexandria members

Our popular grown-up field trip series continues with a trip to Alexandria Archaeology Museum for Ship Science.

Why would a ship be found underground? Use dendrochronology and other scientific methods to uncover the mystery behind one of Alexandria's 18th century ship discovered along the waterfront. Join other adults as you explore objects and primary sources, dive into conversations, and get hands-on as you learn more about Alexandria's history.

This program takes place in the Archaeology Museum, located on the third floor of the Torpedo Factory, which is accessible by elevator.

Grown-Up Field Trip: Black History Museum
Sunday, August 23, 1 to 2:30 p.m.
Alexandria Black History Museum, 902 Wythe Street
$15 per person; $12 for Historic Alexandria members

Our popular grown-up field trip series continues with a trip to the Alexandria Black History Museum for Moss Kendrix: Reframing the Black Image.

How can stereotypes cause harm? Learn about pioneering public relations expert Moss Kendrix and how he changed the way media portrayed Black Americans. Join other adults as you explore objects and primary sources, dive into conversations, and get hands-on as you learn more about Alexandria's history.

This program takes place in the Alexandria Black History Museum, which is fully wheelchair accessible.
