MRC FAQs

Who can be an MRC volunteer?

 

To be an active MRC volunteer you must meet the following criteria:

 

  • Be 18 years of age or older
  • U.S. citizenship is not required, but all volunteers must have valid form of government issued ID
  • Attend an MRC Orientation and agree to Code of Conduct and Liability Policy
  • Pass a combined Criminal History and Sex Offender Search background investigation
  • Be willing to volunteer, if you are able, during an emergency

 

Do I have to be a healthcare provider to join Alexandria MRC?

 

No. Alexandria MRC is made up of both medical and non-medical volunteers. Volunteers come from all walks of life and professional backgrounds. 

 

Do I have to live in Alexandria to volunteer with Alexandria MRC?

 

You do not have to live in the city of Alexandria to volunteer with Alexandria MRC, and some volunteers do choose to volunteer in Alexandria even though they may live elsewhere.

 

What about liability when I am volunteering with MRC?

 

Volunteers operating within the scope of their assigned job description are covered by the MRC Code of Conduct & Liability Policy. Volunteers will never be assigned a role that does not fit their training, licensure, or comfort level.

 

How do I become a volunteer with Alexandria MRC?

 

The first step is to create a profile and submit an application through the Virginia Volunteer Health System (VVHS). The application takes approximately 20-30 minutes to complete.

 

Once I sign up, what will happen?

 

A staff member will receive your application, review your information, and reach out to you via email. You will need to attend an orientation, where you will learn more about the program and complete necessary paperwork, to be eligible to participate in MRC deployments and trainings.
