Update 9/3/2026: Following Governor Abigail Spanberger's directive granting additional holiday time to state workers, state-level offices, including the Court Service Unit, the Alexandria Health Department, Flora Krause Casey Health Center, and the Teen Wellness Center, will be closed at noon (12 p.m.) on Friday, September 4. Additional details are listed below.

All City of Alexandria government offices will be closed on Monday, September 7, to observe Labor Day.

Other schedule changes and closures are listed below. 

Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) 

Monday, September 7: ACPS schools and offices are closed. 

Alexandria Transit Company (DASH) 

Monday, September 7: DASH bus service will operate on a Saturday-Sunday schedule. Lines 102, 103, and 104 will not operate.

The King Street Trolley operates from King Street Metro to City Hall/Market Square with service every 15 minutes, from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. every day, including holidays.

Please note that DASH Administrative Offices will be closed in observance of the holiday. 

Animal Welfare League of Alexandria (AWLA) 

Monday, September 7: Closed.

For an animal emergency or wildlife concern, call 703.746.4444. 

Courts 

Friday, September 4: The Court Service Unit will close at 12 p.m. (noon) on Friday, September 4. Individuals seeking a protective order should go to the Magistrate Office - Alexandria, District 18, Chief Magistrate's Office, Region 5 at 2001 Mill Road. The Magistrate Office can be reached by phone at 703.746.4515.

Monday, September 7: The General District Court, Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court, Court Service Unit, Circuit Court, and the Clerk of Circuit Court will be closed. 

Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV)

Monday, September 7: Closed.

All emergency hotlines operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The numbers for emergency hotlines are:

Health Facilities 

Friday, September 4: Alexandria Health Department, Flora Krause Casey Health Center, and the Teen Wellness Center will be closed at noon (12 p.m.)

Monday, September 7: The  Alexandria Health Department, Flora Krause Casey Health Center, and the Teen Wellness Center clinics will be closed. 

Historic Alexandria 

Monday, September 7: Gadsby’s Tavern Museum and the Stabler-Leadbeater Apothecary Museum will be open from 1 to 5 p.m.  

All other Alexandria Historic Museums will be closed.  

Impound Lot 

Monday, September 7: Closed.

The City’s impound lot is closed on all weekends and observed City holidays. Fees continue to accrue on Saturdays and Sundays, but not on holidays. 

Libraries 

Monday, September 7: All Alexandria Libraries will be closed. 

Parking 

Monday, September 7: The Alexandria Police Department will suspend parking restriction enforcement at meters and residential permit parking districts. This applies only to legal parking spaces.

Temporary no-parking signs will still be enforced.  

Recreation and Nature Centers 

Monday, September 7: Old Town Pool and Warwick Pool will be open from 10 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Minnie Howard Aquatics Facility will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. All other City of Alexandria recreation facilities and nature centers will be closed. 

Resource Recovery 

Week of September 7: Trash, recycling, yard waste, and curbside food waste collection will be delayed one day.

  • Monday collection will be on Tuesday, September 8.
  • Tuesday collection will be on Wednesday, September 9.
  • Wednesday collection will be on Thursday, September 10.  
  • Thursday collection will be on Friday, September 11.
  • Friday collection will be on Saturday, September 12.

The Household Hazardous Waste Electronic Collection Drop-off Center will be closed on

Torpedo Factory Art Center 

Monday, September 7: The Torpedo Factory is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Torpedo Factory occasionally closes at 5 p.m. Visit torpedofactory.org/visit to see the schedule.
