Tonight at The Lyceum: Professor Henriques’ Lecture on George Washington and Slavery

Don’t miss tonight’s thought-provoking lecture, George Washington and Slavery, at The Lyceum, Alexandria’s History Museum. George Washington was the only Founder to present a plan to free his enslaved workers, but he lived with slavery and off slavery throughout his life. In this assessment of Washington and slavery, Professor Peter Henriques will explore the dilemma Washington (and the nation) faced and what his actions, or lack of actions, reveal about the man and the country he founded. 

Tickets are available at AlexandriaVA.gov/Shop. Admission is $15 for the general public and $12 for Historic Alexandria members.

Following the lecture, a book signing will take place in the Museum Shop, with proceeds benefiting the Historic Alexandria Museums.

The program begins this evening, October 14, at 7 p.m. at The Alexandria History Museum at The Lyceum, 201 South Washington Street, Alexandria.
