UPDATE: Statement Regarding Seminary Road School Zone Speed Camera
Following the initial audit report from the City’s vendor, Verra Mobility, APD expanded its review of the records pertaining to the Seminary Road school zone speed camera citations issued between August 18, 2025, through February 26, 2026, to validate if any additional drivers were impacted outside of enforcement hours. This comprehensive audit determined additional citations were issued outside the authorized enforcement period between August 18, 2025, and February 26, 2026.
Through APD’s subsequent review, the Department identified a total of 834 citations (including the original 115) issued outside the enforcement period during the affected timeframe (7:30 a.m. - 7:59 a.m.).
592 citations have been refunded to the original form of payment (59 by check which are being manually processed at this time);
227 unpaid citations have been dismissed.
Refunds could not be processed for some citations because the original payment methods are no longer active. Motorists who believe they may be among this group should contact Sgt. Reeve at 703.746.6652 for assistance.
APD also audited the City’s other 11 school zone speed cameras and confirmed they were operating correctly. To prevent a recurrence, APD has strengthened its processes and procedures through independent verification, written confirmation of schedule changes, and regular camera audits.
Anyone who believes they received a citation in error from the eastbound Seminary Road camera during this timeframe and still has the citation notice should contact Sgt. Reeve at 703.746.6652.
Maintaining safe school zones requires effective enforcement, accountability, and public trust. APD remains committed to administering the City’s automated enforcement program with accuracy and transparency.
