Bridge Inspections and Maintenance

Current Projects
West Glebe Road Bridge
Partial opening of the W. Glebe Road Bridge
The West Glebe Road bridge is open to motor vehicle traffic, with one lane open in each direction. Pedestrian and bike traffic will continue to detour on the temporary bridge to the east of the main bridge, and the Four Mile Run Trail underpass will continue to detour on the sidewalk of South Glebe Road and South Four Mile Run Drive (see map below).
Signs and barriers have been installed to direct vehicular traffic across the bridge as crews continue to perform work. The bridge is expected to be fully open to pedestrian, bike, and vehicular traffic in the summer of 2023.

CSX Rail Bridge
CSX Rail Bridge over King Street and Commonwealth Ave. Maintenance Update
The rail bridges over King Street and Commonwealth Avenue, in the vicinity of the King Street Metro station, are owned and maintained by CSX. In February 2021, it was reported to the City that a number of pieces of wood had fallen from the bridge, resulting in a temporary closure of King Street. The City has worked closely with CSX to investigate the cause of the issue, to ensure proper repairs are made, and that the bridge remains in safe condition. Correspondence regarding this effort can be found below.
