Starting a Business and Zoning Compliance
The City’s Zoning Ordinance outlines where within Alexandria certain businesses can locate:
- To find your zone, enter your address in the City’s GIS Parcel Viewer.
- Find your zone in the City’s Zoning Ordinance and refer to the sections titled Permitted Uses, Administrative Special Uses, and Special Uses sections. These sections will let you know if your business is allowed at that address.
- If your business requires an Administrative Special Use or Special Use permit approval, apply through APEX, to start the approval process.
Contact the planning staff at pznondevelopment@alexandrava.gov to assist with this process or to answer your questions about complying with the City’s zoning.
