Historic Alexandria Debuts Alexandria’s Official America250 Garden Flag
Historic Alexandria is encouraging residents and businesses to show their local 250th spirit by adorning their gardens with Alexandria’s very own America250 garden flag and joining the citywide Plant for America250 initiative.
In partnership with the Alexandria Beautification Commission, the City of Alexandria is encouraging the community to plant red, white, and blue native patriotic gardens across Alexandria, reviving a tradition first celebrated during the nation’s Bicentennial in 1976.
Whether planting patriotic native gardens for Plant for America250 or tending to existing perennials, residents can celebrate America’s 250th anniversary in 2026 with the official America250 garden flag. The custom 18 x 12.5-inch vertical flag is made from durable cream-colored woven polyester designed to withstand rain and sunshine, with the America250 logo printed on both sides. Garden stakes are not included but can be purchased at local garden stores.
Garden flags are available for $15 at the Alexandria History Museum store and through Historic Alexandria’s online store. Shipping charges apply for online purchases.
Purchase Alexandria’s America250 garden flag online in the Historic Alexandria Shop.
The Plant for America250 initiative, promoted by the City of Alexandria and the Alexandria Beautification Commission, encourages residents and businesses to plant native species in patriotic colors as a way to honor America’s milestone anniversary while supporting a more resilient and sustainable future.
Residents are also encouraged to take the Plant for America250 pledge and participate in the new 2026 America250 Patriotic Native Plantings Award, recognizing outstanding patriotic native plantings at residential, business, and community properties.
