Temporary reserved parking may be issued for the following reasons: weddings, funerals, wakes, parades, moving, loading and unloading, construction equipment, repairs and maintenance, City permitted events, snow removal, and other uses as deemed necessary to effectively operate within the City, including emergency security measures.

Please note: The City does not issue temporary reserved parking permits for private parties. Residents holding a private party may request visitor street parking passes from the City's Treasury division, on the 1st floor of City Hall (301 King St.).

Submitting an Application for Reserved Parking

Applications can be submitted in the following ways:

  • Via APEX, the City's online permitting system
  • In person at the Construction Permits and Inspections Section located on the 2nd floor of the Redella S. “Dell” Pepper Community Center at 4850 Mark Center Dr.

Please make sure you have the following information before beginning an application:

  • The number of spaces needed
    Each space is approx. 20 feet. A maximum of 5 spaces can be reserved for weddings, wedding receptions, funerals, wakes, and moving. The number of spaces reserved for parades, loading and unloading, construction equipment, repairs and maintenance, City-permitted events, snow removal, etc. will determined on a case-by-case basis.
  • The exact location of the spaces, including:
    • Address
    • Side of the street (north, south, east or west)
    • Meter numbers for each space (only needed if the spaces are metered). Meter numbers can be found on each street meter. 

Application Deadlines

Applications for temporary reserved parking spaces/signs must be submitted by 12 noon, three full business days prior to the date parking spaces are needed (weekends and holidays excluded). Reserved parking requests received later than this will not be accepted.

Cost

Metered spaces: $40.00 per meter, per day.  

Non-metered spaces: $30.00 per space, per day.  

To cover NO PARKING signs: $10.00 EACH SIGN, PER DAY. 

Reserved Spaces for Construction Equipment

Before temporary reserved parking for cranes, dumpsters or welding trucks (construction equipment) can be issued, you must first obtain a permit and provide a certificate of insurance for general liability, which names the City of Alexandria as co-insured or additional insured.

Please note: the City cannot reserve parking spaces for contractor vehicles while the contractor performs work. Permits will only be issues for equiment being used at work sites (cranes, dumpsters, etc.)

Issues with Reserved Parking Signs?

For issues with the issuance or installation of reserved parking signs, please call 703.746.4035, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

To report a vehicle parked in your reserved space(s), please call the Alexandria Police Department's non-emergency line at 703.746.4444.

The City does not issue refunds for reserved temporary parking space signs unless the signs were not posted.
