Explore hundreds of years of history through the City's museums, trails, and markers. Visit Alexandria has a complete list of historic attractions, overnight accommodations, and transportation options through the City. 

City of Alexandria residents receive free admission to all City-operated museums listed below. Out-of-town guests may wish to purchase the Key to the City museum pass, which is available for purchase at all Historic Alexandria Museums and the Alexandria Visitor Center. Active-duty military personnel and their families receive free admission year-round through the Blue Star Museums program.

African American Heritage Park

Open dawn to dusk

The focal point of the park is a sculpture group of bronze trees called "Truths That Rise From the Roots Remembered." The park also includes a 19th century African American cemetery and was designed to co-exist with the original landscape of the cemetery.

Alexandria Union Station

Amtrak Station, open daily

Generations of passengers have embarked on journeys and were welcomed home at the Alexandria Union Station. Built in 1905, the station is on the National Register of Historic Places. Stop by the station to see interpretive exhibits or to take the train.

Contraband and Freedmen's Cemetery Memorial

Open dawn to dusk

The cemetery served as the burial place for about 1,800 African Americans who fled to Alexandria to escape from bondage during the Civil War. A Memorial honors the memory of the Freedmen, the hardships they faced, and their contributions to the City.

Lloyd House Exterior

Lloyd House Garden

Garden open from dawn to dusk. 

The garden is located behind Lloyd House, one of the best surviving examples of Alexandria's late eighteenth-century Georgian style. Building is now used as administrative offices and is closed to the public.

Murray-Dick-Fawcett House Garden

Garden open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Located next to one of the earliest homes in the city, this vest-pocket park and garden provides space for guests to relax. Guests are asked to respect the privacy of the home's tenant and not ascend the steps to the house.
