E-cigarette, or Vaping, Product Use Associated Lung Injury (EVALI)

Since July 2019, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has been investigating cases of e-cigarette, or vaping, product use associated lung injury or EVALI. Lung injury ranges in severity with most the severe cases resulting in death. All cases have reported use of e-cigarettes or vaping products with a majority reporting use of THC-containing products, but no single product has been linked to all cases.

Alexandria Health Department (AHD) is monitoring EVALI in the City of Alexandria, with the support of Virginia Department of Health (VDH). We continue to work with healthcare providers, and local and regional community partners to identify potential cases and exposures related to this emerging outbreak. We will continue to engage with healthcare providers and community partners as the situation evolves.
