mobility

How you get around has big impacts to our community’s greenhouse gas emissions and impact on the climate. The most energy efficient options for moving around the city are walking, biking, and taking transit – and when you have to drive, electric vehicles (EVs) outperform traditional, internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles.

Getting around the city without a car is now easier and is getting better every day, through the investments the city is making in dedicated transit corridors, bicycle facilities, pedestrian facilities, and electric buses. Also, be sure to check out all the options you have for commuting through GO Alex!

  • The City is seeking feedback through public meetings, pop-up events, and an open house on a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridor along Duke Street! Check out the event calendar here.
  • This month, while Metro service is disrupted, sign up for a free, 45-day Capital Bikeshare membership and try out shared mobility, including e-bikes! VRE is also free for this month, and as always – DASH is 100% fare-free!
  • Be sure to check out this e-bike demo event the City is hosting, where you can test-ride several brands of e-bikes!
  • Learn more about the Alexandria Mobility Plan, which is the roadmap for creating a safer, more efficient transportation system that works for all residents of the city.
  • Learn more about the benefits of electric vehicles and the City’s plan for electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

energy efficiency & electrificatioN

Improving the energy performance of your home or business can reduce greenhouse gas emissions, increase comfort, and improve the health of your family or occupants of the building.

Thinking about making energy efficiency improvements in your home or business? Consider a DIY energy audit, virtual energy audit, or a professional home energy assessment as a starting point!

Learn about some of the benefits the recently passed Inflation Reduction Act will bring to Virginians here.
