Public Health Advisory Commission Selects Allen Lomax for Flora K. Casey Public Health Award

For Immediate Release: November 1, 2023

The Public Health Advisory Commission is encouraging Alexandria residents to celebrate the outstanding public health efforts of Allen Lomax. Lomax has been selected as the 2023 winner of the Flora K. Casey Public Health Award.

To celebrate Allen Lomax’s efforts, the Public Health Advisory Commission invites all residents to the Flora K. Casey Public Health Award Ceremony. The ceremony will be held at 5:30 p.m. on November 14 in the Viola Lawson Lobby at Alexandria City Hall. More event details are available in the city calendar event.

A longtime resident of Alexandria, Lomax has demonstrated a devotion to public health for decades. As chair of the Partnership for a Healthier Alexandria, Lomax led the Partnership through two community health assessments (CHAs) and community health improvement plans (CHIPs). His work on the CHIP grant management process allowed the Partnership to grant over $80,000 to Alexandria organizations in the past three years.

Outside of the Partnership, Lomax worked to help create Hunger Free Alexandria and successfully advocated for City funding to expand the ALIVE! Food Warehouse. He also served as chair of the Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition of Alexandria (SAPCA) where he’s coordinated youth engagement to guide programming for adolescents and teenagers. He currently serves on the governing board of the Partnership to Prevent and End Homelessness within the City of Alexandria.

Lomax continues to lead collaborative efforts to improve health and wellbeing in Alexandria.

You can learn more about Lomax’s efforts and the award on the Flora K. Casey Public Health Award webpage.
