Adaptive Signal Control: Traffic Signal Cabinet Upgrades Begin February 17
Adaptive Signal Control: Traffic Signal Cabinet Upgrades Begin February 17
Beginning Tuesday, February 17, the City of Alexandria will work to upgrade traffic signals along S. Van Dorn Street and Duke Street. The Adaptive Signal Control project, part of the City’s Smart Mobility Program, uses new detection and management systems to allow real-time adjustments for signal timing based on traffic conditions.
Instead of running on fixed timing plans, the upgraded signals will be able to respond dynamically to changing traffic patterns — helping improve travel time reliability, reduce congestion, and keep intersections operating more smoothly during peak hours, incidents, and weather events.
During this work, drivers may experience temporary delays. Traffic control staff will be present as needed during project work periods.
