In 2017, the City partnered with Alexandria City Public Schools to perform walk audits at all elementary and K-8 schools. William Ramsay Elementary School was included in that process. Several recommendations were made to increase safety for students. This project will implement safety improvements recommended in the William Ramsay Walk Audit Report.

Community Engagement

Status: Complete

Spring 2024

To make it easier and safer for children and adults to cross Sanger Avenue near the William Ramsay Elementary School and Recreation Center, the City of Alexandria plans to install curb extensions and update crosswalks at several locations. To create space for these improvements, the City plans to remove three parking spaces along Sanger Avenue.

Images shows location of proposed crosswalks, curb extensions, and parking removal.

The City's Traffic & Parking Board considered and approved this proposal at the June 24, 2024 Public Hearing.
