Congenital Syphilis

  • Statewide, the number of diagnoses of congenital syphilis, in which a mother passes syphilis to an infant, have increased significantly since 2012. 
  • Since 2014, there have been 120 congenital syphilis diagnoses in Virginia. Over 25% of congenital syphilis diagnoses occurred in Northern Virginia (Alexandria, Arlington, Fairfax, Loudon, and Prince William).
