Project Description

The purpose of this project is to address concerns heard from residents related to traffic safety. Potential solutions include a temporary sidewalk, improving pedestrian crossings, increasing sight distances, restriping, and making the corridor safer for people walking, biking, and driving.

Project Map

Map of potential safety improvements near Old Dominion Boulevard, Tennessee Avenue, and North Overlook Drive addressing a challenging intersection, missing sidewalk and missing crosswalk.

Project Background

The project corridor spans the 3600 block of Old Dominion Boulevard, the intersection of Old Dominion Boulevard and Tennessee Avenue, and the intersection of Tennessee Avenue and North Overlook Drive. The 3600 block of Old Dominion Boulevard is major collector, connecting the Beverly Hills Community United Methodist Church, North Ridge and Beverly Hills neighborhoods with West Glebe Road. Tennessee Avenue is a minor collector that serves residential uses. North Overlook Drive is a local street that serves residential uses and connects to Beverly Park.

In response to community concerns, City staff are addressing safety issues by proposing improvements within the identified project area.

There have been 9 traffic crashes since 2017 in the project area. Of those, a third resulted in people being injured.
