The purpose of this study is to explore potential safety improvements on Mount Vernon Avenue between Glendale Avenue and Leadbeater Street.

Study Background

Mount Vernon Avenue is a two-lane minor arterial roadway that serves as Del Ray's main street, serving local neighborhoods, schools, businesses, parks, and community gatherings. The community has shared concerns about safety on this active corridor, and in 2026, the City of Alexandria was awarded a technical assistance grant through the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments' Regional Roadway Safety Program to study the corridor and develop concept designs for potential improvements.
