After many years of service, major updates are needed throughout City Hall to repair aging building components, improve operating systems, optimize space utilization, improve building circulation and wayfinding, enhance security, and facilitate community engagement.

Beauregard Street Multi-Use Trail Project

The purpose of this project is to design and construct a shared-use path along North Beauregard Street between Fillmore Avenue and Berkeley Street, a distance of approximately 0.5 miles. This project will increase mobility and access for people walking, biking, or using other mobility devices on the West End.

Bicycle Parking

The majority of improvements funded through this project include racks, concrete pads and associated fix-it stations. This project also provides for the implementation of bicycle shelters at transit-proximate demand points. This project entails the procuring and installation of one hundred ninety-five (195) bike racks, and ten (10) bike fix-it stations at City owned locations and adjacent to bus stops throughout the city.

Eugene Simpson Athletic Diamond Fields Renovation Plan

In 2014, the City completed a Citywide Parks Improvement Plan for six parks, including a plan for Simpson Park. Several plan recommendations have been implemented since 2014 and this project will address the remaining outstanding recommendations. Improvements will also address drainage and surface improvements on the two diamond fields.

Joseph Hensley Park Renovation

Recreation, Parks, and Cultural Activities is currently designing a renovation of Joseph Hensley Park, scheduled for phased implementation beginning in 2022. The proposed design plan has a number of amendments to the endorsed 2014 Joseph Hensley Park Improvement Plan. The proposed design plan will maintain diamond and rectangular athletic uses on site and upgrade the facilities.

King Street-Old Town Metro Access Improvement Project

The King Street-Old Town Metro Access Improvements project will make the area immediately surrounding the Metrorail station safer and more aesthetically pleasing for station users, while also maintaining efficient levels of service for buses and other transit vehicles accessing the site.

Historic Ship Stabilization

This project includes the stabilization and storage of three historic ship remnants excavated at the Robinson Landing Site.  The overall goal of the project is to transport and store the timbers in Ben Brenman Pond (4800 Brenman Park Dr.) in a manner that preserves the possibility of future study and conservation when adequate funding and/or a location for permanent storage or display is available.

Windmill Hill Park Project - Phase II

Phase two of the Windmill Hill Park Project will focus on the west side of Windmill Hill Park adjacent to the Wilkes Street Tunnel and Wilkes Street right-of-way. The improvements currently under design include renovations to the existing playgrounds in compliance with current playground safety standards, improvements to the turf areas, the addition of an irrigation system, stabilization of the slope north of the playground, and creation of on-site bioretention facilities for improved stormwater management.
