Supporting second chances for returning citizens is crucial for reducing recidivism, strengthening communities, and fostering individual growth. By providing opportunities for education, job training, and housing, we empower individuals to rebuild their lives and contribute positively to our community.

Our staff plays a vital role in this process by connecting incarcerated individuals with educational resources, professional development, personal growth and counseling services, and community support networks to facilitate a smoother and more successful reentry.

In April the Sheriff’s Office participated in several Second Chance Month events, including:

  • On April 15, inmates attended the annual Reentry Resource Fair and connected with organizations offering services and resources in health, education, training, employment, and peer support.
  • On April 26, ASO and our partners in the justice community held a free Expungement Clinic at Charles Houston Rec Center, with services will available in English and Spanish.
  • On April 29, ASO held a ceremony at the Adult Detention Center to rename and rededicate the program housing unit as the “Second Chance Unit.”

Read the Governor’s proclamation designating April as Second Chance Month.
