On October 3, 35 inmates celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month at a lunchtime program conducted in Spanish and organized by the Inmate Services team. Attendees enjoyed a Mexican-style lunch and decorations highlighting the diverse cultures and achievements of Hispanic people.

During lunch, attendees watched the movie “En el Tiempo de las Mariposas” (“In the Time of the Butterflies”), a fictionalized account of sisters who resist the Trujillo regime in the Dominican Republic.

Attendees also participated in a contest to identify flags of Spanish-speaking countries. Twenty-one flags were displayed on a wall and each attendee wrote down the names of the country represented by each flag. One individual correctly identified all 21 flags and prizes were awarded to the top three.

Visible from the back, several inmates wearing tan or green jumpsuits and seated at tables eating lunch and watching a movie on two screens.
