The Sheriff’s Office celebrated the achievements of 11 employees who earned promotions in the past year with a recognition ceremony on October 23. Dozens of family members and friends of the honorees attended the event as did several City officials and many colleagues.

The ceremony, emceed by Lieutenant Jessup, included the presentation of the colors by the Honor Guard, Deputy Herring singing the national anthem, and Deputy Stubblefield delivering the invocation. Lieutenant Jessup provided opening remarks and read the names of all deputies who had earned elevations within the deputy rank during the past year.

Then members of the event organization committee announced the promotions by reading introductions and acknowledgements on behalf of each honoree. Many recognized current and retired supervisors and commanders who influenced their professional development and several thanked their family members for their support. After the introductions, Sheriff Sean Casey presented each honoree with a certificate.

Elizabeth Anderson was recognized for her promotion to Human Resources Technician II and then the following ten deputies were recognized:

•    Sergeant Carter, Sergeant Munir, Sergeant Reed, Sergeant Villatoro and Sergeant Williams
•    Lieutenant Branch, Lieutenant Hoffmaster, Lieutenant Ignacio and Lieutenant Ocasio
•    Captain Gilmore

As the highest-ranking promotee, Captain Gilmore addressed the guests on behalf of his fellow honorees. In his remarks, he expressed their gratitude to Sheriff Casey for the opportunity and their families and colleagues who have played important roles in their careers.

John Knippenberg, Chief Deputy Clerk of the Alexandria Circuit Court, then administered the oaths of office to sworn staff according to their rank.

In his closing remarks, Sheriff Casey congratulated all the promotees and thanked them for taking on new challenges and responsibilities. He also thanked all in attendance, staff involved in conducting the ceremony, and the family members of the honorees who have supported their loved ones in a particularly demanding job.

Following the formal program, guests enjoyed refreshments and taking photos with family, friends and colleagues.
