Project Background

The City of Alexandria has received numerous complaints about safety along this segment, and Seminary Road is among the City’s high-crash corridors. There have been over 150 crashes in the project area from 2018-2024, including 9 that resulted in death or severe injury. The City's adopted Vision Zero goal is to eliminate fatal and severe crashes from Alexandria streets by 2028.

In 2024, the City  was awarded a technical assistance grant through the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments' Regional Roadway Safety Program to study the Seminary Road corridor, identify potential improvements, and develop concept designs.
