Arlington
- BikeArlington Program The bicycle element of the Master Transportation Plan calls for enhancing mobility for pedestrians and bikers in Arlington by providing safe, convenient, aesthetically pleasing and environmentally responsible transportation system. The program funds five types of projects to carry out this mission: new construction of multi-use trails, trail renovations and safety improvements, expansion of bike lanes and on-street facilities, installation of bike parking, and bike wayfinding.
- WalkArlington- Walking is just one part of the equation in Arlington County. Arlington offers a wide range of transportation options and services that make it easy to move around the County. By embracing multimodal policies, the County is able to move more people efficiently by foot, bike or transit, ultimately resulting in safer streets and less traffic on the roads for everyone.
Fairfax County
- FCDOT’s Active Transportation Program works in coordination with other county and state agencies to improve transportation infrastructure such as bike lanes, sidewalks, crosswalks and trails to encourage safe and efficient walking, biking, scooting and other active ways that people move around Fairfax County.
Washington DC
Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments- Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan for the National Capital Region- The 2022 edition of the plan identifies the capital improvements, studies, actions, and strategies that the region proposes to carry out by 2045 for major bicycle and pedestrian improvements in state, local, and agency plans, and shows how implementation of these improvements, actions, and strategies will advance the goals of the region’s long range transportation plan, Visualize 2045. It serves as a resource for planners and the public.
VDOT- The Virginia Department of Transportation's Bicycle and Pedestrian Program has provided planning assistance to state and local transportation planners since it was established in the late 1970s. At VDOT, the program plays a leadership role in advancing bicycle and pedestrian accommodations throughout Virginia. The program is within the Transportation and Mobility Planning Division and part of the Multimodal Section. The statewide bicycle and pedestrian planner oversees and coordinates intradepartmental and interagency efforts to shape bicycle and walking policies and practices and to ensure statewide consistency with the Commonwealth Transportation Board's 2004 Policy for Integrating Bicycle and Pedestrian Accommodations. The policy provides a framework for VDOT to accommodate bicyclists and pedestrians in the planning, funding, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of Virginia’s transportation network.
Shared Scooters & E-Bikes
The City of Alexandria's Dockless Mobility Program to allows private companies to operate shared mobility devices (such as e-bikes and scooters) for rent in the City under an annual permit. Many of these companies are operating in surrounding jurisdictions, offering more opportunities to get across jurisdictional boundaries.
Capital BikeShare
Capital Bikeshare is the region's bikeshare program. Bike sharing is public transportation using bicycles, and cities around the world provide bike sharing systems as a transportation option for residents and visitors. There are over 600 stations throughout Alexandria, Arlington, Fairfax County, Falls Church, Arlington County, Montgomery County, Prince George's County, and Washington, D.C. Additionally, the program now offers e-bikes that can be found at stations or nearby bike racks. Capital Bikeshare is a great way to get around the region!
