On July 27, Sheriff Sean Casey graduated from the Senior Management Institute for Police (SMIP) conducted by the Police Executive Research Forum (PERF) following three weeks of intensive study under the direction of both professional and academic faculty.

Sheriff Casey was among 104 law enforcement executives and commanders in Session 88 who came from police departments and sheriff’s offices across the country to learn how to best address current and future challenges in policing and law enforcement management.

Faculty from Harvard, Dartmouth, MIT and Johns Hopkins joined highly-respected chief law enforcement executives and subject matter experts from the private sector to give law enforcement managers, according to PERF, "the same quality of management education available to other leaders in the public and private sectors.” Together they delivered instruction and led discussions on communications, negotiations, budgeting, leadership ethics, crisis management, leveraging diversity and other management priorities.

Recognizing the high value of quality education, Sheriff Casey found the SMIP curriculum to be robust, engaging and extremely timely. He embraces lifelong learning and previously completed the Leadership in Police Organizations program with the International Association of Chiefs of Police in 2019 and also earned his Certified Public Management designation from The George Washington University through the Institute for Regional Excellence in 2020.
