Deputy Breaunda Hatfield, Deputy DeVon Carney and Deputy Nazirullah Qazei were among the more than 40 honorees recognized by the Chamber of Commerce at the annual Public Safety Valor Awards on June 8.

As the event began, the combined Sheriff-Police honor guard presented the colors and Deputy Jacquelyn Olson sang the national anthem. Julie Carey, Northern Virginia Bureau Chief for NBC4 Washington, served as emcee and described the incidents and honorees’ actions while agency officials presented the awards.

Sheriff Sean Casey congratulated each of the deputies as they received life-saving awards for rescuing inmates who had attempted suicide. Several members of the Police and Fire departments also received awards, and the Old Town Business Association received the Community Valor Award for its efforts to get restaurant and retail workers vaccinated.

Sheriff Casey and the Sheriff’s Office staff appreciate the generous support of the sponsors and the efforts of the Chamber’s staff in making the Valor Awards such a special event. Additional details are available in the printed program.
