In-person social visitation has been suspended due to an elevator problem inside the Detention Center.

Visitation Information

Visitation is offered on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Inmates may have two visitation sessions per week.

Hours on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays are 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. On Saturdays and Sundays, it is 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. There is no visitation on Tuesdays and Fridays.

There is no visitation on City holidays except Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas (unless Christmas Eve and/or Christmas fall on Tuesdays or Fridays).

Inmates must sign up their visitors at a pre-arranged time. Inmates are expected to advise their visitors of the appropriate time slot. No walk-up visitation is allowed. Exceptions must be approved by the Watch Commander.

Inmates may receive special visits under certain circumstances (for example, inmates whose families have traveled long distances, etc.). These visits may include extended visitation during non-visitation hours but such arrangements must be made through the on-duty Watch Commander or designee.

The William G. Truesdale Adult Detention Center is located at 2001 Mill Road in Alexandria. If you're driving, please pay close attention to the signs on Mill Road and stay right. Parking for visitors is available under the interstate ramp.

Visitor Rules

All visitors and their personal effects are subject to search prior to their entrance into the Detention Center.

All visitors will pass through magnetometers located in the Visitor Center and Control One lobby, prior to boarding the visitation elevator or entering the first floor visitation area.

All visitors must provide valid government or school-issued identification with a picture. Visitors without proper identification will not be permitted to visit inmates housed in the Detention Center.

Intoxicated visitors will be denied access into the Detention Center and may be subject to arrest.

Visitors are expected to use trash cans located throughout the facility. Deputies may deny visitation to anyone who litters in the Detention Center or Public Safety Center building or grounds.

Any visitor observed or proven to have vandalized any part of the Detention Center will be prohibited from visiting any resident of the facility. The visitor will be held liable for the repair and/or replacement of the damaged area and will be subject to arrest.

Smoking, drinking and eating are prohibited inside the visitation and lobby areas. Deputies will terminate a visit immediately if this rule is not followed and future visits by the offending party may be jeopardized.

Photography and recording of any kind are not allowed inside the Visitation area.

Prohibited Items

To ensure the security and safety of inmates, staff and visitors, the following items are prohibited:

• Weapons of any kind (including knives and sprays used for self-defense)
• Backpacks
• Briefcases
• Cameras
• Cell phones
• Other electronic devices
• Diaper bags (you may carry one diaper and one bottle)
• Food and beverages

Please note that the Sheriff’s Office may expand this list as necessary and without notice.

Visitors Must Be Dressed Appropriately

All visitors are required to wear shoes. Bedroom shoes are not acceptable footwear.

Intimate body parts must be covered and remain concealed while on Public Safety Center grounds. No clothing that exposes the breast or other intimate areas may be worn.

Hems, slits or splits of dresses, skirts, culottes and shorts may not exceed three inches above the mid-knee.

No halter tops, tank tops, tube tops, backless tops or cropped tops revealing the midriff may be worn.

No form-fitting clothing may be worn (for example, Spandex or leggings).

No clothing may be worn that can easily be determined to be offensive, lewd or vulgar. This includes T-shirts or other clothing with offensive or lewd language, symbols, pictures or images (for example profanity and hate-related symbols).

Undergarments must be worn and remain covered during the duration of the visit.

Gang-related clothing is prohibited.

No clothing may be worn that promotes illegal or violent conduct, such as the use of weapons, drugs or drug-related paraphernalia.

Clothing that includes any wording, abbreviations, or images that may lead a prudent person to believe the wearer is a law enforcement officer is prohibited. The only exception would be if the visitor is indeed a law enforcement officer acting in an official capacity.
