Inmates Earn Professional Certification, Employment Opportunities through In2Work
At a recognition ceremony on October 9, Sheriff Sean Casey (at right) joined Aramark officials and ASO staff in celebrating nine inmates who successfully completed the In2Work program.
The nine graduates completed the vocational program in food service safety and management under an Aramark instructor while working in the kitchen at the Adult Detention Center. Through the In2Work program, students gained hands-on experience, learned basic food service and meal preparation skills, and developed operation and management knowledge that will help them pursue good careers after they return to the community. In addition, all nine graduates earned their ServSafe® Food Manager Certification, an industry credential that will make them more competitive candidates for employment in the restaurant, food service, and hospitality fields.
Congratulations to Jean Casimir, Alex Castellon-Diaz, Jilmar Doria-Medina, Jorge Florez-Alvarez, Jeffrey Martinez, Emerson McAllister, David Monroy, Angel Morales-Flores, and Carl Talbert on their achievements!
During the recognition ceremony, instructor Harvey Eagleston congratulated the graduates as they donned their new aprons and chef beanies and then he presented each with their In2Work and ServSafe® certificates. Graduates told attendees about their career goals, from opening their own restaurant to working in hotels to managing a kitchen to having their own food truck.
Aramark shows their commitment to In2Work graduates by encouraging them to apply for employment with Aramark when they return to the community. Aramark currently employs more than 300 In2Work alumni across the country.
The Alexandria Sheriff’s Office and Aramark first offered In2Work at the Adult Detention Center in 2022 and are proud to see that partnership continue. Along with this training, the Sheriff’s Office provides professional development opportunities, such as OSHA 10 construction safety and traffic flagging certification, to help prepare people in custody for expanded employment avenues when they return to the community.
