Sheriff and seven recruit deputies standing at academy graduation

Sheriff Sean Casey is proud to announce that seven recruit deputies graduated from Rappahannock Regional Criminal Justice Academy as part of Jail Officer Basic Class 219. Deputy Angus, Deputy Igwe, Deputy Matias, Deputy Njoh, Deputy Peffer, Deputy Pitts, Deputy Rowland and their classmates graduated on September 17 after successfully completing eight weeks of intensive training.

Deputy Rowland was recognized during the ceremony for the highest academic achievement as well as the highest overall achievement. Deputy Matias also distinguished herself by being selected by her classmates as the class leader.

The academy training included defensive tactics, firearms, legal, communication, and topics specific to jail operations and security, such as control of contraband, inmate classification, and transporting inmates. The new graduates will continue their training at the Adult Detention Center.
