Sheriff and several high school students listening to a deputy talking inside a jail
Alexandria teens can participate in the City's Junior Academy to learn firsthand about civic functions and different government agencies. ASO hosted Junior Academy members on a visit that included a tour of the Adult Detention Center.
Several teens wearing t-shirts that say Take Down Tobacco joined by a few adults including a deputy in uniform
Alexandria teens participated in Take Down Tobacco and ASO was there to support them! After the kick-off at Charles Houston, deputies escorted students in Old Town, Del Ray and Chirilagua and the teens talked to merchants and completed surveys. They also asked stores to display stickers and posters to discourage anyone under 21 from attempting to purchase tobacco and nicotine products, and merchants were eager to help.
Three Girl Scout Cadettes delivering four cartons of cookies to two deputies in a roll call room
Deputies got a sweet surprise from Cadettes with Troop 60085! The Cadettes selected ASO deputies as their Hometown Heroes and delivered dozens of boxes of Girl Scout cookies to roll call. They also met with Sheriff Casey and learned about the work the Sheriff's Office performs.
Deputy speaking to a class of elementary students
Through our school liaison program, deputies spend time at ACPS elementary schools during their regular duties, like Deputy Devon Neckles visiting with students at Naomi L. Brooks. They stop by schools, join kids for lunch, speak with students for career day programs, check on security, and provide a visible presence.
Deputy sheriff speaking with young author about her book at a school event
At Samuel W. Tucker's health fair, Sergeant Cassandra Branch got to meet students and families -- and the young author of "Naevia's Magic Glasses."
Deputy talks to eighth graders
Eighth grader Grace wanted her St. Stephen's and St. Agnes School classmates to be informed about safety, so she invited Sergeant Cassandra Branch to talk to her class. APD Detective Betty Sixsmith and Sheriff Sean Casey joined her and all shared helpful information about personal and online safety. Thanks to Grace for taking the initiative and and to SSSAS for letting us support their commitment to safety and security.
