2025 Albany Trip

June 2025

City archaeologists ventured north to Albany’s New York State Museum (NYSM) to get a first-hand look at how archaeologists, conservators, and museum exhibit fabricators are working together to install the conserved 18th century ship found at the World Trade Center Site. The vessel will serve as the centerpiece of their exhibit on America's founding.

Alexandria Archaeologists learned valuable lessons by taking part in the process. City staff helped unpack and organize timbers, clean excess polyethylene glycol from the artifacts, and mend broken pieces ahead of final install. This visit provided City archaeologists with a preview of the time and resources needed to install and care-take a conserved historic ship. We are so thankful to all the staff at the NYSM for providing us this incredible opportunity.
