In connection with Second Chance Month, the Sheriff’s Office held a ceremony to formally rename the men’s program housing unit as the Second Chance Unit.

Inmate Communications

The Sheriff's Office uses Smart Communications to handle inmate communications, including phones and tablets. Inmates receive four free 15-minute phones calls, two free digital messages and two free 20-minute video visits each week.

Inmate Mail Procedures

To enhance the safety of inmates and staff, the Sheriff’s Office uses MailGuard® from Smart Communications. This allows inmates to receive personal postal mail through a safe and secure electronic mail service. Personal mail for inmates will no longer be accepted at the Adult Detention Center.

The Sheriff’s Office has contracted with Smart Communications to provide inmate privileged communications, including legal mail, for approved registered attorneys. These changes streamline privileged communications between counsel and inmates, improve legal mail distribution, maintain privacy, and ensure the safety and well-being of inmates and staff.

Library Services for Inmates

Inmates at the William G. Truesdale Adult Detention Center have access to a small law library and a collection of popular novels, self-help books, literary classics and a variety of non-fiction books through the inmate leisure library.

The Prison Rape Elimination Act of 2003, commonly known as PREA, is a federal law enacted to protect inmates in jails and prison from sexual abuse and sexual harassment during their incarceration.

Inmate Work Detail is composed of carefully screened inmates who, under the direct supervision of a deputy sheriff, complete public works projects, including litter collection along roadways and debris removal near waterways.
