Annual Solid Waste / Recycling Tonnage Report for Calendar Year 2023 - Due March 15, 2024
All permitted solid waste haulers are required to submit an annual tonnage report to the City (City of Alexandria Municipal Code 5-1-50). Notification of the requirement to submit the Annual Solid Waste /Recycling Tonnage Report is sent in January of the following year. For example, the notification letter sent in January 2024 is for tonnage collected in the calendar year of 2023 (January 1, 2023 through December 31, 2023). All solid waste haulers and recycling companies operating in the City of Alexandria are required to renew or apply for a solid waste hauler permit by June 30th. Notification reminders for these permits will be mailed out the first week of May to all registered haulers as well as any public haulers currently operating in the DMV region. For your convenience, all permits are now submitted online via the City’s secure APEX web portal. Payments for permits may also be made online by credit card (Master Card or Visa). Please note that all vehicles applying for a solid waste hauler permit must be inspected by the City before their permit can be finalized.

Solid Waste Hauler Permit - General Information
The City of Alexandria requires all solid waste and recycling haulers to obtain permits for all vehicles and containers used in the collection of waste materials including municipal solid waste (MSW), construction and demolition debris (C&D), yard trimmings/waste, fats, oils & grease (FOG), food waste, bulk waste and recyclables generated within the City limits (City Municipal Code 5-1-51).
Permits are issued once a year on July 1, and are valid for a period of one year (July 1 to June 30). Any permits issued after July 1 are valid only for the remainder of the current fiscal year (June 30).

Mechanized and Non-mechanized vehicles: $300
Pickup Trucks: $150
Solid Waste Hauler Fees for Containers
Containers between 3 cubic yards and 10 cubic yards: $3
Containers greater than or equal to 10 cubic yards: $5
