Solid Waste Hauler Permitting and Reporting
The Annual Solid Waste / Recycling Tonnage Report for calendar year 2022 (tonnages collected in January 1, 2022 through December 31, 2022) is due March 15, 2023.
- The annual Solid Waste Hauler Permitting process is ongoing. Haulers are required to be permitted annually by June 30. In order for a Solid Waste Hauler Permit to be finalized, haulers must inspect their vehicles with the City of Alexandria. Annual Tonnage Reporting Requirements
All permitted solid waste haulers are required to submit an annual tonnage report to the City (City of Alexandria Municipal Code 5-1-50). Notification of the requirement to submit the Annual Solid Waste /Recycling Tonnage Report is sent in January of the following year. For example, the notification letter sent in January 2023 is for tonnage collected in the calendar year of 2022 (January 1, 2022 through December 31, 2022). All reports must be submitted by March 15, 2023.

- Municipal Solid Waste (MSW / Trash)
- Reuse of Materials
- Construction & Demolition debris
- Disposal Locations

Solid Waste Hauler Permit - General Information
The City of Alexandria requires all solid waste and recycling haulers to obtain permits for all vehicles and containers used in the collection of waste materials including municipal solid waste (MSW), construction and demolition debris (C&D), yard trimmings/waste, fats, oils & grease (FOG), food waste, bulk waste and recyclables generated within the City limits (City Municipal Code 5-1-51).
Permits are issued once a year on July 1, and are valid for a period of one year (July 1 to June 30). Any permits issued after July 1 are valid only for the remainder of the current fiscal year (June 30).

Pickup Trucks: $150
Solid Waste Hauler Fees for Containers
Containers between 3 cubic yards and 10 cubic yards: $3
Containers greater than or equal to 10 cubic yards: $5
