Alexandria Sheriff's Office

The Alexandria Sheriff's Office is responsible for the operation of the William G. Truesdale Adult Detention Center, security of the Alexandria Courthouse, service of court legal documents, execution of court orders, transportation of prisoners, and general public safety and law enforcement. The Sheriff's Office is accredited by the American Correctional Association, National Commission on Correctional Health Care, and Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies.

Sheriff Sean Casey

Sheriff Sean Casey, a highly experienced and dedicated public safety leader, is now serving in his first term of office as the Sheriff of Alexandria. A lifelong Alexandrian and veteran law enforcement officer, he assumed office on January 1, 2022 after having been elected in November 2021.

The Alexandria Sheriff's Office is a professional organization with 168 deputy sheriffs and 34 civilian personnel. The Office received the National Sheriff's Association's "Triple Crown Award" for achieving national accreditations in law enforcement, corrections, and health care in corrections.

Going out of town? The Sheriff’s Office can help keep an eye on your home while you’re away. As a public service to residents, the Sheriff’s Office offers checks by deputies at the homes of people who are out of town.

To promote safety and prevent suicide, the Sheriff’s Office makes gun locks and medication lock boxes available to Alexandrians at no cost. Lock boxes and firearm cable and trigger locks can be picked up anytime at our Visitor Center.

Depositing Funds to Inmate Accounts

The William G. Truesdale Adult Detention Center accepts funds for inmates of the detention center. Access Corrections manages the system for online deposits, and deposits by phone, and it also sets the fees for their services.

Detention Center Bureau

The Detention Center Bureau manages the security of the William G. Truesdale Adult Detention Center which houses approximately 300 local, state and federal inmates. This Bureau also coordinates facility maintenance, inmate services and classification, records management, and IT functions.

The Bureau includes Judicial Services such as courthouse security and operations, and Field Operations such as civil process, warrant service, K-9, and community support functions.
