Upcoming Events

The following is a schedule of the next community engagement events planned for the Waterfront Flood Mitigation Project. Details will be provided once the dates are confirmed.   

 

Community engagement events will resume following completion of the 1 Prince Street Alternatives Analysis. See the Waterfront Flood Mitigation Project Design webpage for more information.

City Commissions

Alexandria Archaeological Commission (AAC)

The Alexandria Archaeological Commission is the 13-member advisory group that works with federal, state and local governments, private foundations, citizens, area schools and colleges to establish goals and priorities for the City's archaeology program, as well as acquire, preserve, and display all artifacts found.

Historic Alexandria Resources Commission (HARC)

The Historic Alexandria Resources Commission (HARC) is a 26 seat body that advises the City in the preservation of historic sites and buildings, artifacts, and records from loss or deterioration; and promotes citizen and tourist use of historic sites and the Torpedo Factory Art Center.

Alexandria Park and Recreation Commission

The Park and Recreation Commission is an 11-member advisory unit established by City Council in March 1970. The Commission advises City Council in matters relating to parkland, recreation and culture, and participates in planning recreational activities and services through its advice to Council, and the Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities.

Alexandria Waterfront Commission

Alexandria Waterfront Commission was established in 2012 as a forum for the community to advise City Council and engage with City staff on issues related to Alexandria's historic Potomac River waterfront and implementation of the Waterfront Plan. The Commission is currently composed of 21 members representing adjacent neighborhoods, community organizations, and other related City committees.

Waterfront Commission - Flooding Subcommittee

The Waterfront Commission Flood Mitigation Subcommittee was organized to facilitate focused discussions on flood mitigation topics with community representatives. This body continues to play a critical role in providing feedback on the City’s Alternative selection and refinement process and informing the City on the community’s priorities for the Waterfront.
