ABOUT THE CHA PROCESS
6. What is a Community Health Assessment?
The process represents a grassroots effort to identify key health issues affecting the many communities within the City of Alexandria. Our assessment framework - used by communities and local health departments around the country - aims to ensure that the process is community-driven with representation from all voices in Alexandria.
7. Why should our community conduct a Community Health Assessment?
This process:
- Improves access to health and social services
- Enhances the health of the community
- Allows local stakeholders to identify and compare critical health needs across the City
- Aligns Alexandria with the Virginia Plan for Well-Being
- Helps develop a Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP) -- a comprehensive plan to improve health in the community based on best practices for policy, systems, and environmental change
